Dr. Sacks,

You have been a wonderful sentient being on this beautiful planet. And it has been an enormous privilege, for all of us, to read your moving, inspiring, marvellous words.

Thank you. With the deepest gratitude.
Carla Homer
Thank you master!!!
You will be in my mind and my heart forever...
Love and now rest...
Jessie Kkindred from Brooklyn
I started writing my first letter to my greatest teacher last Sunday night:

"Dear Oliver Sacks, I am writing to say thank you to you." I read the last pages of his memoir on Friday, dreading the loss of Oliver Sacks. I have not learned more from another person, another writer, than I have from reading Oliver Sacks. I learned more from reading Awakenings than I did in my entire college education, reading and rereading every line at the expense of studying for my classes at the time. I discuss his perspective and assign his writing in every class I have ever taught.

I am so deeply grateful for him, and for his legacy and writing, so grateful that he remains in words to teach and remind us how to think, how to feel while thinking, and how to see the world and each other from this truly phenomenological perspective. And I am so deeply sad that he is no longer here, writing more, being loved, and teaching us how to think and see and seek.

Thank you, Oliver Sacks, for sharing your remarkable mind, body, self, thoughts, love, and life with all of us.

Rest In Peace, good Doctor.

Melisa Clark from Little Rock
Thank you Dr. Sacks for your work. Rest in peace.

Dear Dr. Sacks,

I simply want to say THANK YOU for all the encouragement and inspiration your books mean for me. You'll always be in my heart.
Lorraine MacDonald from Barrie ON Canada
Just heard of the passing of the amazing and inspirational Dr. Oliver Sacks. I was introduced to Dr. Sacks in medical school by a neurologist who encouraged the reading of the Man Who Mistook his Wife for Hat. What a great read and what a story teller! I have since heard him interviewed a number of times on NPRs Radiolab. He always had this sound of joy and fascination when talking about people in general and the mystery that is the human brain. I have been inspired by Dr. Sacks and hope that I am a better physician for it. Congratulations to Dr. Oliver Sacks on a life well lived.
Tom Hawking from Bedford, UK
To the Sacks family,

I was so sorry to hear of the loss of Dr. Sacks today, and just wanted to express my condolences. He was a truly inspiring man and a compassionate and brilliant physician.
Pat Ogden from Boulder Colorado
I am weeping this morning for the loss of a man I never met, with whom I feel such kinship, who has deeply touched my mind and my heart in ways that few who do not know my name have. His "I love to discover potential in people who aren't thought to have any" inspires my own work with those patients some call "impossible.” Gratitude and grief are brother and sister.

Thank you Dr. Sacks. They say a person is not really dead until no one remembers his name. You will live forever.
Janet Wasserman from New York
With the passing this morning of Dr. Sacks I wish to express my immense gratitude for the writings and the career of this extraordinary man. Because of his bravery in the face of a terminal cancer diagnosis I decided at age 80, while still relatively healthy, to preplan my funeral. I have begun the process and it has brought me great peace of mind. Thank you, Dr. Oliver Sacks, for being a kind and generous mentor even at the end of your life.
Anna Krasutsky from Dallas
I am deeply sad that Dr. Sacks will not have a chance to read my message. I thought it best to read all his writing before sharing and I wished I had shared sooner. Dr. Sacks changed my and many people's view of the brain, compassion and passion for learning. He will be deeply missed, and celebrated in my home and in the hearts of many around the world.
Carla De Landri from New York
Thank you for your work and brilliant insight into the human condition. They have helped me see truth and beauty in personal and familial conditions. I especially appreciated the New York Times essay on The Sabbath.

Dear doctor, on this seventh day, I hope you are at peace and that you knew that you lived a good and meaningful life. RIP.
Luca Serafini from Saronno (va ) italia
Con i Suoi libri mi ha aiutato a vivere meglio le mie sofferenze, a comprenderle. Mi mancherai tanto Oliver.

One of the most inspiring persons for science and humanity. I hope you will continue inspiring people to share and to live. God bless you and may you rest in peace.
Meghan from Brooklyn
I am sad over a person I have not met. My heart breaks because the world will have no more words from Dr. Sacks. I guess I'm sad for all of us. Even though we had never met, I will miss him greatly.
Vic Lang from Bergenfield, NJ
Now I am sure the accolades will come in fast and furious but here's how I remember you: the sweet, quirky man who would amble down our block and jump into the water. Swim out to the dock and back..even in the most awful/cold weather (inspiring a kid-approved nickname that I won't share) always smiling ..and giving us a quick "hello" as you turned to go home. Rest peacefully former neighbor. You'll be missed.
Hans Boot from Haarlem
Thank you so much for your knowledge and you being that amazing you.
Bruce Cleary from New York City
Many years ago I went to a talk Oliver Sacks gave at The Museum of Natural History. Once he reached the podium, moving slowly, already beset by serious arthritis and, it transpired, becoming deaf, the first words out of his mouth to the adoring audience were: "This is my favorite place in New York City!" [Thunderous applause gave way to startled-but-joyous laughter.] R.I.P.
Barbara from Leura, Australia
I've just heard about your death on tonight's news. So sad that you are no longer with us. You will be missed by many, many people, for you touched us with your stories, keen observations, and humanity.

I hope your transition to who knows what beyond this life goes well. xx
RIP O. Sacks
